How to Use the Career Development Centre (CDC)
What do we offer?
We aim to provide a service that is professional, efficient, friendly and empowering. Whether you are helping yourself to Free take-away literature, using the computers for assessment tests/careers work in the CDC Information Room, visiting the help-desk to ask questions, attending our seminars and employer presentations or talking with us in a one-to-one meeting, we are happy to assist you and work with you as you progress through Planning your Career.
You can use the CDC in a number of ways
Help Desk
- No appointment necessary.
- Monday – Friday, 10am – 12.30pm and 2.30pm – 4.30pm
- Any changes to this schedule will be advertised in Hours
CDC Information Room
- Reference material including books on careers related topics, funding and applications.
- Free take-away material available ranging from gradireland employment directories and sector career guides, Prospects and Target UK employment directories and career guides and Options with your Subject information sheets!!
- Students have access to computers for careers related work.

- Virtual Careers Library
- Seminar Handouts
- Sample CVs
- Information Sheets ( e.g. Medicine/ GAMSAT, Social Work, Law, Teaching, Translation, TEFL, GRE, GMAT)
- Self-assessment tests e.g. Careers Report
- Preparing a CV (sample provided)
- Applications and Interviews
Self Assessment / Careers Interest Tests
We offer a range of psychometric tests which help you to explore your interests, personality and motivations and generate career suggestions based on the information you provide. Go to Planning your Career - Step 1 to start.
Individual guidance
Meet with a careers adviser to discuss career options, cv feedback, interview preparation tips. Pre-requisites to be completed and submitted to CDC prior to scheduling meeting can include Careers Report (Self-Assessment Test) and Careers Centre Booking Form, Occupational Reseach, CV and/or Application Form

We advertise vacancies on our website in Vacancies, on our noticeboards and on www.gradireland.com
Seminars
We run a series of events throughout the academic year. Topics covered includePlanning your Career, Business Etiquette, CV and Interview Preparation, Teacher Training. Unless otherwise stated it is not necessary to book. See Events for details and Resources for handouts.

Our visiting speakers will give presentations/information stands providing information on a range of career areas .

Careers and Postgraduate Study Fairs
NUI, Maynooth Accountancy Showcase - Tuesday 4th October 2011, 4pm - 6pm. Iontas Building, North Campus.
- Graduate Careers Fair: 12th October 2011, 11am - 5pm
- Postgraduate Study Fair: 15th February 2012, 1pm - 6pm
- Summer Fair: 20th June 2012, 11am – 5pm
